Gingrich: FBI Director Comey ‘caved’ to political pressure by not charging Clinton

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, also a top surrogate for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, believes FBI Director James Comey has “caved” to political pressure.

Comey announced Sunday afternoon that the bureau was not changing their conclusion in regards to their criminal probe into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state. In July, Comey announced that he would not recommend charges against Clinton — despite admitting that the private server contained classified information.

“Comey must be under enormous political pressure to cave like this and announce something he cant possibly know,” Gingrich tweeted after Comey’s announcement Sunday.

“The destruction of James Comey by political pressure is painful to watch. He is being twisted into an indefensible pretzel of contradictions,” he added in a subsequent tweet.

Still, many are left wondering why Comey again sent a letter to Congress so close to Election Day, which is now just two days away.
