Political tug-of-war – The Gun Control Debate

Fellow patriots – Let’s Talk Gun Control

In today’s society the gun control debate is hotter than ever.  The presidential elections are starting to heat up with just over a year before a new Commander-in-Chief is announced.  As with any election, the stance of the candidates on gun control is always a point of concern.  Sadly, it seems like shootings are becoming more and more prevalent and the divide of pro and anti gun rights and politicians is getting bigger.  It’s no surprise the FBI is reporting record numbers of back ground checks from retail gun stores for new gun sales.  A lot of people don’t know the ATF is reporting a record number of new Class III (suppressors, short barreled rifles/shotguns) inquiries from dealers.  That sounds great but unfortunately, every person the takes the step to buy a shiny new AR and complete the paperwork to outfit it with a suppressor, another person takes the step to counter act that whether it be by protesting, supporting anti-gun foundations, voting for an anti-gun politician, etc.  With every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction, Yin and Yang, ebb and flow.  Regardless of the side a person is on the passion of their beliefs are getting more and more fierce and they’ll do more and more to protect what they believe in.

Let’s look at a few points…

A man kills another with a gun.  Is it the guns fault?  Is society to blame?  Maybe it’s because of violent video games or movies?  Today’s politicians know that to say they’re for an all out ban on firearms would be career suicide.  They know there are enough gun owners out there who wouldn’t vote for them.  They know the NRA is too big, powerful and well funded to let it happen so they try to be underhanded with it by enacting lesser means of regulation.  Banning “high-cap” magazines is a perfect example.  There are many states that live behind the Iron Curtain where anything over 10 rounds is illegal.  They would have you believe it makes their states a safer place.  Does it really?  The FBI, as much as they try, can’t differentiate any difference of crime reports since the ban.  Are law makers really that naive to think a criminal who is about to rob the local convenience store is going to remove his pre-ban high cap magazine, go to his local gun store, buy a legal magazine then continue on with his planned midnight hold-up?  I can’t imagine they do.  So why do the politicians think they would?  Because, over time they can enact another bill, then another, then another so before long they’ve accomplished their goals and they’ve slowly disarmed the law abiding citizen.  I think of it like getting into a hot tub; you don’t just cannon ball in like you would into a pool on a hot summer’s day, you ease in, slowly getting used to the temperature.  Take California for example, for a rifle to be legal it CAN NOT have; the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:

  1. A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
  2.     A thumbhole stock.
  3.     A folding or telescoping stock.
  4.     A flash suppressor.
  5.     A forward pistol grip.

So, if you’re unfamiliar with these laws and are trying you’re best to think what a California legal rifle would look like…see the abomination below.

gun control debate

That is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.  Even the gun itself knows that it’s hideous.  That is the effort of the gun community trying to get around the absurdity of law makers.  All of their efforts to ban firearms have led to this.  The questions remain; Does it make the projectile less accurate or effective?  Does it make it less of a rifle?  Does it make you and your community safer?  Is it stopping crime?

I’ll do what today’s left wing politicians refuse to do; Let you make up your own mind.
