Vocal doppelgänger? Listen to Bernie Sanders and Seinfeld’s ‘George Steinbrenner’

For some strange reason, whenever Vermont’s socialist senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders speaks, I feel compelled to listen.

Additionally, as I am hearing Sanders, I admit to feeling something akin to the sensation one has watching a favorite sitcom or stand up comic — it is almost as if I expect to be entertained.

This conundrum plagued me for weeks.

Then, it hit me; Sanders sounds like Larry David’s portrayal of the late New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, a classic character from the TV show “Seinfeld.”

It makes sense. The Steinbrenner character was voiced by “Seinfeld” creator Larry David. Both David and Sanders are from Brooklyn, New York. Most vocal coaches and native New Yorkers will agree — Brooklynites have a rather distinctive accent.

This realization is also not groundbreaking. Others have made the connection.

In early August, YouTube user Thomas Purcell posted a video alternating from clips of Sanders to David’s Steinbrenner.
